Figs, functional food

The dried figs provide us with six times more energy than the fresh ones; in addition, dehydration concentrates the nutrients, turning this fruit into a source rich in potassium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium and vitamins A, B and C; Even sugar is more concentrated, providing a high amount of glucose, sucrose and fructose (this large amount of carbohydrates are a major source of energy).

Dehydrated figs are also rich in soluble fiber (pectin) that can help us lower blood cholesterol levels. Figs have a high concentration of polyphenols that reduce the risks of cardiovascular disorders.

They contain insoluble fiber that helps digestion by preventing both constipation and other intestinal ailments. They contain a fiber called lignin, very effective in correcting bowel disorders or chronic constipation. It helps with slow digestion problems as it has enzymes and flavonoids that favor the digestive process. The fig also has laxative and diuretic qualities as a natural product. The consumption of figs is recommended for young children, adults, elderly, pregnant women, students and for those who do physical activities.

They are recommended for respiratory system problems, sore throat, bronchitis, colds and cough.

They have a high content of calcium, an essential mineral for the bone formation of the human being. In addition, the calcium present in figs has some similarity with the one present on milk, increasing the density and facilitating the correct development of the bones.

They have a high content of potassium, a mineral with multiple functions, including participating in nerve transmission, muscle work and proper distribution of water in the body. In addition, it activates enzyme systems and intervenes in the excitability of the heart, nervous system and musculature.

They are also rich in iron which is of great help to people with anemia or problems caused by menstrual cramps. It also contains benzaldehyde which can act as an anticancer agent.
